Prediction: Obama Will Push For Legitimization Of Hamas

It will happen this way:

Following the model of the misguided legitimization of the PLO terrorists, it will be proclaimed that Hamas has met the Quartet's criteria for legitimization.

As with the PLO, there is certain criteria held forth that Hamas must agree to in order for the diplomatic embargo to be lifted and international legitimacy bestowed.

In other words, say something publically whether you mean it or not.

With respect to the PLO this criteria was the following:

  1. Acceptance of Israel's right to exist.
  2. Acceptance of UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338.
  3. The renouncing and abandonment of terrorism.

In 1988 it was announced that the PLO had met the criteria. Paving the way for international legitimacy and formal diplomatic dialogue. They had become "moderate."The breakthrough in diplomacy was heralded to have taken place in Stockholm in a behind the scenes meeting:

"The secret channel discussions continued. During November, a message giving a presidential pledge to start a dialogue if the PLO met the conditions was sent by National Security Advisor Colin Powell through a private individual meeting with PLO officials in Stockholm."

[Colin Powell endorsed and supported Obama in the recent election.]

At Stockholm, Arafat and the PLO issued a statement in which they announced their acceptance of the criteria. However it was not until Arafat made an additional public statement in Geneva that the PLO was rewarded with the diplomatic legitimacy it had sought.

However the PLO's recognition of Israel and renunciation of terror were and are "words only."

The PLO Charter which calls for the destruction of Israel has still never been changed.

In 2002, official Palestinian Authority documents captured in Israel's Operation Defensive Shield, detailed financial compensation for acts of terror against Israelis in Arafat's own handwritting.

Just this past April the official Palestinian Authority representative in Lebanon, Abbas Zaki, reaffirmed the PLO's Phased Plan strategy saying, "

"... the PLO proceeds through phases, without changing its strategy. Let me tell you, when the ideology of Israel collapses, and we take, at least, Jerusalem, the Israeli ideology will collapse in its entirety, and we will begin to progress with our own ideology, Allah willing, and drive them out of all of Palestine."

In keeping with "secret channel discussions", it has been disclosed in Arab media that aides to the Obama campaign met secretly with Hamas in Gaza.

The prediction is that like with the PLO, there will be secret behind the scenes "talks" with Hamas orchestrated by the Obama Administration.

Next, we will see "reports" from undisclosed sources that Hamas is softening it's stance towards Israel. These will saturate the MSM for a while. Hamas cannot be seen as too quickly "moderating" itself.

Then will come public statements of Hamas leaders themselves that will have the "appearance" of change.

Next, the EU, which is already talking to Hamas in violation of the diplomatic embargo, will start shouting that Hamas is become "moderate." And therefore should have full diplomatic recognition and legitimacy.

Finally, like the PLO itself, Hamas leaders will issue a carefully worded statement in which they will be seen as having agreed to the Quartet's conditions.

The Obama Administration will announce that "change" has taken place with Hamas and they are no longer the bloodthirsty jihadist terror organization they have been.

Not unlike U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz who said of the PLO in 1988, " I didn't change my mind, they changed theirs."-

No, they didn't George.

And Hamas won't change either. They need to be defeated, destroyed.

Update 02/17/09-

Israel has held new elections and the current Kadima/Labor government is on its way out and will soon be replaced. Caroline Glick shares her thoughts:

"The outgoing Kadima-Labor government's anticipated decision to release a thousand terrorists, including several dozen mass murdering terror commanders, in the framework of a ceasefire deal with Iran's Palestinian proxy Hamas is simply the latest troubling legacy that the Olmert-Livni-Barak government is leaving its successor. "

"Once the deal goes through, Hamas will be able to quickly expand the threat it poses to Israel. The jihadist group is already using the political legitimacy Israel is conferring on it to reestablish its unity government with Fatah. When that government is formed, the US and Europe will move hastily to recognize the terror group."- more.

"...the U.S. and Europe will move hastily to recognize the terror group."

Update 02/19/09-

George Mitchell, Obama's Middle East Envoy, has expressed support for a Fatah/Hamas unity government.

Hmm..., now just why would he do that?

Update 02/23/09-

EU Leaders Pushing For Fatah/Hamas Unity

They are doing this because the new incoming government of Benjamin Netanyahu and Likud has stated that Hamas must be defeated, not just "weakened." The dhimmi Europeans want to see a Fatah/Hamas unity for two reasons:

First, they want to make use of the PA to provided diplomatic cover and protection for Hamas.

Secondly, it will be a step toward the legitimization of Hamas.

If that it is accomplished, they feel that will give them more leverage to push Israel into major appeasement for another Palestinian state on Israel's land of Judea and Samaria.

Update 03/15/09- From the Boston Globe:

"Nine former senior US officials and one current adviser are urging the Obama administration to talk with leaders of Hamas to determine whether the militant group can be persuaded to disarm and join a peaceful Palestinian government, a major departure from current US policy.

The bipartisan group, which includes economic recovery adviser Paul A. Volcker and former national security advisers Brent Scowcroft and Zbigniew Brzezinski, made the recommendation in a letter handed to Obama days before he took office, according to Scowcroft.

The group is preparing to meet this weekend to decide when to release a report outlining a proposed US agenda for talks aimed at bringing all Palestinian factions into the Mid east peace process, according to Henry Siegman, the president of the US/Middle East Project, who brought the former officials together and said the White House promised the group an opportunity to make its case in person to Obama.

Talking to Hamas, which the State Department has designated a terrorist organization, would mark a dramatic reversal for the US government. Longstanding US policy has stipulated that before engaging in any talks, Hamas must renounce violence, recognize Israel, and agree to all previous agreements signed by Palestinian negotiators."

Update 06/16/09-

Carter Will Urge Obama To Remove Hamas From Terror List:

Former President Jimmy Carter is set to urge Obama to remove the Islamic terrorist organization from the U.S. Terror List according to a report at Fox News.

The efforts to bestow legitimacy on the Islamic terror are increasing by misguided appeasers.

Update 06/21/09-

Carter Relayed Message To Hamas From Obama:

A message has reportedly been relayed to the terrorist group Hamas by former president Carter from Obama, looking to open talks with the Islamic terrorist group.

Update 06/25/09-

This just in-  FBI Initiates Official Outreach To Hamas

Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch reports that he has just recieved this info from a well placed source:

"Today, FBI Executive Assistant Director Tom Harrington is meeting at FBIHQ with Imam Majid of the ADAMS Center in Sterling,VA. Imam Majid is also the Vice-President of the Islamic Society of North America - a known Muslim Brotherhood entity and un-indicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation Trial in Dallas in which all defendants were found guilty of leading the Hamas front group. This was the largest terrorism financing trial in the history of the United States. "

"This meeting today follows yesterday's official decision by FBIHQ to use ISNA as their official point of contact with the American Muslim community. ISNA is one of the largest and most prominent Muslim Brotherhood entities in the US. The Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 with two objectives (which are their same two objectives today): implement Islamic Law and re-establish the global Islamic Caliphate. Their creed, which is still their creed today, includes "...martyrdom in the way of Allah is our highest inspiration."

Efforts by the misguided to bestow legitimacy on this evil Islamic terrorist organization are picking up.

Update 08/14/09-

As predicted, there is now a first public statement by Hamas to give the "appearance" that the Islamic terrorist organization is on the way to becoming "moderate".

At least according to the definition of "moderate" by clueless politicians.

For the first time in the terror oganization's history, a political spokesman for Hamas has said they are now willing to accept a "two-state solution" with conditions. And that they are "ready" for Obama's peace plan.

Update 09/01/09----From IPT

U.S. Taxpayers Funding Pro-Hamas Popaganda Campaign:

With the federal government facing trillions of dollars in red ink, one might think that the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), which receives upwards of $30 million a year from the taxpayers, would want to show Congress it wasn't squandering money on propaganda for terrorist groups like Hamas.

But that hasn't happened. Instead, USIP has issued a new report that twists reality to argue that Hamas has moderated and Israel needs to negotiate with the terror organization.

"...Hamas has 'moderated' and Israel needs to negotiate with the terror organization."
