In a Homeland Security Senate committee meeting, FrancesTownsend launched a verbal attack against the Rev. Pat Robertson. Describing Robertson's remarks about Islam as "ignorant and offensive":
“Islam is a violent, I was going to say religion, but it's not a religion. It's a political system". “It's a violent political system bent on the overthrow of the governments of the world and world domination. That is the ultimate aim.” -Robertson
Senator Carl Levin was equally condemning. As was U.S. General John Kean.
The truth is that Robertson's remarks were both inaccurate and spot-on accurate at the same time. According to one definition of religion,- belief in a deity to be obeyed and worshiped, Islam certainly qualifies as a religion. Just as many false cults also qualify as a religion in that sense.
Islam is different in that it is not merely "another religion", but also doubles as a dangerous, often violent, Imperialistic political ideology at the same time.
The rest of what Robertson said in regards to Islam being a violent political system bent on world domination is spot-on accurate.
Townsend also put forth the notion that Robertson's remarks, and statements made by others critical of Islam, could have the potential of helping to "radicalize" moderate Muslims. Here we go again.
There are two serious problems with that:
First, former President Reagan and Winston Churchhill both demonstrated the importance of challenging and confronting evil political ideologies. Speaking the truth and not being intimidated out of fear of being "offensive". Some are always going to be offended by the truth.
To be sure, the Muslim co-conspirator C.A.I.R. is very offended and has been calling for Va. Governor elect Bob McDonnell to completely disavow Robertson's remarks.
There is no "moderate" Islam-Ayaan Hirsi Ali, ex-Muslim
Secondly, what is a "moderate" Muslim? Are there "moderate" Christians?
The word that should be used here is "nominal".
In Christianity there are "nominal" Christians. They suscribe to and identify with the Christian religion. But in practice are not fully committed. A key problem associated with this is Biblical illiteracy. They don't hardly know whats in the Bible. A Barna survey reported on this.
The same with Islam. There are many "nominal" Muslims. They identify with Islam as their religion. Many of these don't know what's in the Koran. A majority cannot read, speak, or understand Arabic. They are not fully committed.
The danger is not "moderate" Muslims becomming "radical" Muslims.
But rather "nominal" Muslims becomming "committed" Muslims,- when they endeavor to "act" upon what's in the Islamic scriptures, that is when they pose a danger.
With respect to Christianity, it is exactly the opposite.
