Defense Secretary Robert Gates is either unwittingly "clueless", or he is deliberately promoting a flagrant untruth in order to undermine our ally Israel.
Gates has things totally backwards. His recent statements at a news conference are in sinc with anti free-world Islamic propaganda.
The lack of progress toward Middle East peace is clearly the result of the Koran and Islamic ideology.
And it is not just a "Middle East" problem. As has been pointed out before, whether in the Philipines, the Balkans, Kasmir, or "occupied" northern Cyprus, Islam is a dangerous imperialistic ideology that seeks global dominance.
The son of a well known Islamist recently stated the following in regard to "Muhammad" and "Islam":
"So he made a perfect lie"
"I believe Islam is the biggest lie in human history. This is how I believe. Muslims are victims of this lie."
"...time for them to wake up from this lie, to be brave enough to face it."
Robert Gates, George Mitchell, Hillary Clinton, Obama, and also add George W. Bush, Condi Rice, and Tony Blair,-- have all based their policy positions toward Israel on foolish false assumptions.
Just like the science fiction of evolution, the notion that only if Israel bowed down in repugnant appeasement and gave away their own land to the Islamists, then there would be peace,
--such nonsense is also based on ignoring hard evidence to the contrary and dangerous false assumptions.
"If only Israel bowed down and gave the Islamists everything they demanded, then there would be no more terrorism, or jihad."--another dangerous and false thesis.
Since Muhammad invented Islam in the 7th century, there has been 1400 years of jihad-terrorism against non-Muslims with the sole aim of making Islam dominant over the world.
Islam is not just "another religion", it also doubles as a dangerous political ideology at the same time.
This is the real impediment to peace in the Middle East,- not Israel building homes in their own capital city of Jerusalem.

Understand this very clearly Mr. Gates:
The so-called "peace-process" is only used by Islamists as a tactic to oppose Israel and gain concessions, while their ultimate objective remains the complete destruction of Israel.
Consider the words of Abbas Zaki, Abu Mazen's official Palestinian Authority representative in Lebanon:
"Let me tell you, when the ideology of Israel collapses, and we take at least Jerusalem, the Israeli ideology will collapse in it's entirety, and we will begin to progress with our own ideology, Allah willing, and drive them out of all of Palestine"-Zaki
[on a different occasion, Zaki stated " ...and Allah willing drive the Jews into the sea."]
"...and we will begin to progress with our own ideology..."-Zaki
Mr. Gates, would you care to venture a guess as to what that ideology is?
Or how about other "moderate" PLO Fatah leaders:
"Every Palestinian, [Muslim], must know clearly and uneqivocally that the independent Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as it's capital is not the end of the road"
"The rise of the Palestinian state is a stage, after which there will be another stage... "Abu Iyad [Fatah]
In the view of the PLO Fatah, the establishment of a Palestinian state is only a "stage". After which, there will be other "stages".
Stages of political jihad, stages of propaganda jihad, and stages of violent jihad.

Israel is America's most important ally in resisting the global jihad against the free-world. Which is certainly in America's best interests.
Unfortunately the current policies of the Obama Administration serve to weaken and undermine our ally, and that is not in America's interests.
Recent statements by Sect. of State Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama directed against Israel over the building of homes in Israel's own capital city of Jerusalem, have damaged America's interests in the region, and served to undermine our ally and embolden the Islamist enemies of America, Israel, and the rest of the free-world.

The immediate implimentation of the Jerusalem Embassy Relocation Act of 1995 would greatly serve U.S. interests in the region. As well as bolster and strenghthen politically our greatest ally.
Conversely. the repeated delay in it's implimentation does not serve America's interests. But rather harms our interests.
The establishment of a Palestinian state is not only "not in America's interests", it would also be detrimental to the rest of the freeworld as well. As such a thing would embolden jihadists the world over.
Instead of a Palestinian state reducing acts of Islamic terrorism around the world, it would lead to a dramatic increase in militant jihad.
Just as appeasement policies in the late 1930's resulted in Europe being overrun and occupied by the Nazis, so the current policies of the Obama Administration pressuring Israel to engage in appeasement, has the effect of emboldening not only Israel's enemies, but the enemies of the free-world as well.
It's the 1930's all over again. This time Israel is "England" with rockets raining down upon them. While an "appeasement minded" world looks on.
In the 1930's much of America was in passive isolationist mode. Not wanting to be involved in the war "over there". The whole of Europe had been overrun by the Nazis, only England was still free and resisting under a canopy of rockets and bombs.
It was only when a surprise attack was launched against America did the country awaken and become involved in the fight.
Sept. 11th 2001 was another "Pearl Harbor".
America's hand was forced to join the fight against the same barbaric enemy that our ally Israel, [like England in the 1930's], had already been fighting and resisting for years.
The same barbaric enemy that other parts of the free-world have been subject to attack from for the past 1400 years.
Unfortunately, today, the current policies of the government of England do more to hurt those involved in fighting and resisting Nazi Islamist jihad against the free-world.
The UK's biased policies against Israel certainly must earn the indignation of the late Winston Churchhill.
Obama's indecisiveness pertaining to Afghanistan certainly put our troops in greater danger.
