The news that General David Petraeus will replace Leon Panetta as head of the C.I.A., with Panetta taking Gate's place as Secretary of Defense, was a major topic of discussion on today's Secure Freedom Radio with Frank Gaffney Jr.
Gaffney pondered what effect Petraeus's hostility towards Israel might have in his new capacity as director of the C.I.A.
An obvious reference to Petraeus's flawed and distorted view towards Israel and of the ME conflict revealed in his 2010 written statement to the Senate Armed Services Committee.
In an interview last year Diana West elaborated:
["Dick Morris was the first conservative that I know of to 'come out' and, in effect, join me in noting Petraeus' hostility to Israel."
"He wrote: Gen. Petraeus told the Senate Armed Services Committee that 'Arab anger over the Palestinian question limits the strength and depth of U.S. partnerships with governments and peoples [in the region] ... 'Enduring hostilites between Israel and some of its neighbors present distinct challenges to our ability to advance our interests in the area of responsibility.'
In other words, blame Israel. It's that simple."]-
Andrew C. McCarthy also hit the nail on the head in his article "Petreaus's Israel Problem"
["Petraeus is echoing the narrative peddled incessantly by leftists in the government he serves and by Islamists in the countries where he works."]--McCarthy
